| Description | Everolimus, also known as 001, rad or afinitor, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as macrolide lactams. These are cyclic polyketides containing both a cyclic amide and a cyclic ester group. Everolimus is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). It is currently used as an immunosuppressant to prevent rejection of organ transplants. Everolimus is a derivative of Rapamycin (sirolimus), and works similarly to Rapamycin as an mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) inhibitor. In a similar fashion to other mTOR inhibitors Everolimus' effect is solely on the mTORC1 protein and not on the mTORC2 protein. |
