| Description | Azatadine, also known as azatadinum or azatadine maleate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as benzocycloheptapyridines. These are aromatic compounds containing a benzene ring and a pyridine ring fused to a seven membered carbocycle. Azatadine is a drug which is used for the relief of the symptoms of upper respiratory mucosal congestion in perennial and allergic rhinitis, and for the relief of nasal congestion and eustachian t.b. congestion. Azatadine is a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa). In humans, azatadine is involved in azatadine h1-antihistamine action. A benzocycloheptapyridine having a 1-methylpiperidin-4-ylidene group at the 11-position. |
