Metabolite Identification
Common Name7-Hydroxyoctanoic acid
Description7-Hydroxyoctanoic acid belongs to the class of organic compounds known as medium-chain hydroxy acids and derivatives. These are hydroxy acids with a 6 to 12 carbon atoms long side chain. 7-Hydroxyoctanoic acid has been detected, but not quantified in, a few different foods, such as anatidaes (Anatidae), chickens (Gallus gallus), and domestic pigs (Sus scrofa domestica). This could make 7-hydroxyoctanoic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. 7-Hydroxyoctanoic acid, with regard to humans, has been found to be associated with the diseases such as colorectal cancer; 7-hydroxyoctanoic acid has also been linked to the inborn metabolic disorder medium chain acyl-coa dehydrogenase deficiency. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on 7-Hydroxyoctanoic acid.
